Self Deploying Water Dam
The Stingray™ Self-Deploying Water Dam is made from flexible PVC material allowing it to conform to nearly any surface, as well as be deployed on varying sub-surfaces within the same area.
This effective flood control dam system is used to stop and hold back water. As water accumulates inside the dam pocket chambers, it ballasts the bottom of the non-slip fabric; combined with the traction strips on the underside, the water dam stays in place.
As flowing water enters and accumulates in the barrier’s “pockets”, water pressure builds up and this causes the barrier to open up in a V-shape.
Achieve Optimal Lengths with Connectable Units

Stingray™ Water Dam Features
1) Weighted Front Strip - Built in weights keep the unit in place when deployed.
2) Partitions - Reinforced ribbing provides additional strength when water enters the flood dam.
3) Flotation Section - Top Section has a layer of embedded foam to provide flotation, further assisting in the opening of the Stingray water pockets.
4) Back Flap with Grommet Holes - Ability to stake down units to keep in place.
5) Non-Slip Bottom - Located on the underside of the unit, the non-slip bottom prevents slipping to provide further stability.
6) Velcro Closure - Easily connect multiple units together with our industrial strength velcro.
Stingray™ Self-Rising Water Dam
Stingray Water Dam serves as a foundational protection system for serious flood events. Save valuable time and effort by deploying a durable self-rising water dam compared to traditional methods of flood protection.
Stingray is a long term water dam solution that is designed with reusability and ease of deployment as a priority.
Whether you are looking to surround the entire perimeter of your critical infrastructure, hold back the overflow of a swelling river, or create an effective cofferdam to redirect water, the Stingray Water Dam is the major solution for major flooding events.
Stingray Uses:
Perimeter Flood Protection
Riverfront Flood Protection
Damming Creeks & Rivers

Frequently Asked Questions

The Stingray is manufactured using a durable composite PVC mesh fabric, sewn in metal ballast plates and foam flotation strips. These add stability and allow the Stingray to self open when water enters the system. Stingray also features an industrial strength velcro for seaming sections together to create longer flood dams.
-
The Stingray is manufactured at 3 different protection heights - 20”, 30” and 48”.
-
Each unit is available in 15ft and 30ft for ease of mobility and sections can be connected to each other, as needed, to achieve your desired length.
-
Yes, the Stingray Water Dam incorporates an industrial strength velcro on each side so you can extend your flood dam for as long as you need. *Please note, only sections with the same height of protections can be connected to each other. For example, a 30” protection height unit can only be attached to another 30” high protection unit.
-
Garrison offers a 90 degree turn piece, which allows sections to easily turn to surround buildings and other obstacles. These turn pieces function in the same way as standard Stingray water dams, but are shaped in a turn shape. There is no need to bend or overlap sections when making a 90 degree turn.
-
Deploying the water dam is very easy as the material is flexible and comes stored in rolls or folded, depending on the unit and your preference. Unroll the section, placing the front ballast weights facing the oncoming flow of water in the desired location. Prop open the Barrier's pockets using Sandbags to assist the system to evenly distribute accumulated water throughout the units pocket hole chambers. The Stingray will conform to the surface below and create a seal that prevents water from migrating under the flood barrier. Connect units together as needed to create a straight run of protection and add turn pieces as needed to create a perimeter of flood protection. Grommet holes in the back of each unit allow staking or securing of the Stingray during high winds.
-
The Stingray Self-Rising Water Dam operates using the force of incoming water to deploy itself. As water levels rise, the water flows into the chamber within the dam, causing it to lift and form a barrier that blocks further water ingress. If there is not a steady flow of water, you can prop the top flap open to accept the oncoming water with either sandbags, a pvc pipe or another solution.
-
Yes! The Stingray Water Dam, when not filled with water, can be driven over with moderate traffic so the unit can be deployed ahead of the expected flood event and will still make the area accessible.
-
The Stingray is very durable and is constructed using reinforced PVC fabric material. Sections are constructed using a process called whole thermal bonding, which adds tremendous strength. Stingray can withstand the impact from storm surges, flood debris and ice jams.
-
Due to the nature of the material it is very easy to clean. Allow the flood water to recede and manually remove any large debris. Then, use a hose or pressure washer to remove the debris or dirt. Let the unit dry fully and fold or roll back up for future use.
-
It varies depending on the size of the unit that you have and how many corners and attached units you have. For basic installation, 1-2 people can deploy 90ft in about 20 minutes.
-
For ease of deployment, you can leave the unit attached to each other. However, we recommend limiting the length of your barrier to manageable sections for 1-2 people.
-
We do recommend using sandbags in places where the ground may be uneven to prevent seepage under the unit. You can also use standard stakes or rope tie downs to secure the barrier though the grommets on the back of each barrier.
-
We recommend strategically placing sump pumps on the backside of the unit to pump out any collection of rainwater or minimal leakage that may occur due to uneven surfaces. These inexpensive pumps can be used to pump water back out and over the unit.
-
The Stingray Water Dam is made from a flexible PVC material allowing it to conform to nearly any surface as well as to be deployed on varying surfaces within the same area. We recommend that if you are going up curbs or stairs, or transitioning from asphalt to grass, that you strategically place sandbags on those areas to provide added weight in the areas susceptible to leakage.
-
Yes! The Stingray Water Dam is ideal for use as a cofferdam. It can be deployed in a body of water to dam off an area so that you may work safely. Additional tools such as sandbags or pumps may be required to eliminate the water completely.
